A grand New Year’s Day tradition continues on January 1, 2019, when Glendale’s State Farm Stadium plays host to one of college football’s premier events: the 48th Annual PlayStation Fiesta Bowl. The game will feature a first-ever matchup, as No. 11 LSU and No. 8 UCF will face off for the first time in history in a College Football Playoff New Year’s Six contest at State Farm Stadium. The sports world took notice and now, almost 50 years later, the Fiesta Bowl has become a “must-see” event for hardcore college football enthusiasts as well as for casual sports fans. Over the years, the Fiesta Bowl has grown to more than just the game itself, becoming an anticipated annual celebration.
As teams prepare to take the field at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale for the national title, the city and surrounding areas are staying in ‘event mode’ in the days leading up to the big game. To keep travelers occupied right up until game time visitors can take in the beauty of 1.6 million lights along the city’s annual 16-block holiday light display. Tours are offered Wednesday through Saturday at 10:30AM, 12:30PM and 2:30PM. Tours are not offered on Fiesta Bowl game days and other blackout dates apply.
