What's Cookin' with ZANG Asian Bistro!

When and where can we find you in Glendale? 6835 N. 58th Drive, Glendale, Ariz., in Historic Downtown Glendale. We are on the south side of Glendale Avenue on 58th Drive, across the street from Murphy Park and Glendale City Hall.

Where were you born? David was born in India and Poon was born in Hong Kong.

What brought you to Glendale? David - Family business in Glendale, “Gene’s Market” for many years
Poon - was invited by the Chinese Cultural Center in Phoenix to America as the Executive Chef at the Sampan Chinese Restaurant. David invited Poon to join him in Glendale.

What drew you to the kitchen? Poon and David enjoy fine dining and turned their passion for fine foods into a profession.

Culinary training and experience:
David - Travels extensively all over the world and has had the pleasure of dining at the finest Asian restaurants in Asia.
Poon - Executive Chef for more than 20 years in the finest restaurants in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Indonesia. Poon also cooked at a Chinese Restaurant in Rome, Italy!

Tools of the trade: The Wok. With Asian cuisine, you can’t go anywhere without it.

Favorite food, favorite chef and why? Dim Sum, or “ Heart Delight,” is a Chinese version of Tapas, consisting of dumplings (steamed or fried), and a wide variety of appetizers generally eaten at noon with close friends and family.

When the chef’s hat is off (hobbies): Spending time with family.

Unique dishes you prepare: ZANG Asian Bistro’s menu features our favorites and what we consider as the most delicious dishes from China, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam. At the end of the day, we still enjoy Roast Duck, Beijing Style.

Old standbys: Don’t have any. We will always be creating new selections for our menu.

Advice for new chefs or restaurant owners: Take extremely good care of your customers and delight them with the finest dining experience always.

How many cooks in your kitchen? Three to five, depending on time of day. Everyone in the restaurant works together as an efficient team, this includes everyone in the front of the house.

Breakfast, lunch or dinner? Lunch and dinner

Chocolate or Vanilla? Ice cream, any flavor any time. Green tea ice cream at the end of a long day.

How do you take your coffee?
